Bangkok, 21 January 2019 – The Feedback Workshop on Trailer Swapping was organized by GIZ at Theatre I Meeting Room, 3rd Floor, Double Tree by Hilton, Sukhumvit 26, Bangkok, Thailand.
During the event, Mr. Allan Davidson from YOMA Fleet Co., Ltd. from Myanmar discussed about trailer swapping as a boost to cross border trade in the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) countries. The workshop was followed by a project consultant, Mr. Paul Apthorp, who presented a concept paper on trailer swapping studied by the project. The latter part of the workshop saw Mr. Sandeep Raj Jain from United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) who explained about UNESCAP regional framework and transport facilitation tools to strengthen cross-border and transit transport connectivity. In addition, representatives from Thai International Freight Forwarders Association (TIFFA) and Myanmar International Freight Forwarders Association (MIFFA) provided practical feedback and actual situation in the cross-border freight transport in the region from the point of view of playing operators which included participants of the event.
After the workshop, possible way-forwards of cross border in the GMS region and how to realize them, including potential organizations who can help toughen the matter in the future, were discussed and shared. There were 50 participants joining the event.
