On 15 October 2018, held in Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI), Yangon, Myanmar, was a Green Freight Asia Labelling Workshop. Together with GIZ, the event was collaborated by the GFA secretariat from Singapore to make Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) in the freight and logistic sector understand what GFA is and how it can help their businesses, how to participate and gain its benefits, and the application process for GFA label. In addition, how to reduce CO2 emissions with the GFA Label and how GFA can be scaled up in Myanmar were introduced.
During the workshop, participants recommended that the government make public awareness on green freight and make incentive policy for SMEs who follow green freight practices, that business sector follow green freight policy to have more business opportunity and business network, and that GFA share more about benefits of GFA members to private businesses. At the end of the workshop, SMEs gave email addresses for further contact to apply for GFA membership.
The workshop was attended by 24 participants from 18 SMEs who are members of Myanmar International Freight Forwarders’ Association (MIFFA) and Myanmar Highway Freight Transportation and Service Association(MHFTSA), including 2 SMEs who already registered for GFA membership under GIZ project and submitted one-on-one consultation sheets during the event.
